Types of insulation material for sandwich panels

Sandwich panels are a popular solution in construction, used in industrial halls, warehouses, as well as single-family homes. They offer high thermal and acoustic insulation. In the article, I will discuss three popular types of cores of sandwich panels: expanded polystyrene (EPS), mineral wool, and polyurethane foam (PUR).

Expanded Polystyrene (EPS):
- The thermal conductivity coefficient (λ) ranges from 0.034 to 0.045 W/m·K.
- It is characterized by low water vapor permeability and moisture resistance.
- It is relatively light and easy to install.
Mineral Wool:
- It has the highest thermal conductivity coefficient among these three materials.
- It is relatively heavy, but offers good thermal and acoustic insulation.
Polyurethane Foam (PUR):
- It exhibits the best sealability, allowing for use in hard-to-reach places.
- It is relatively light and has good insulation properties.

It is worth noting that the core of sandwich panels can be made of different materials, but most commonly the ones mentioned above are used. Each of them has its advantages and applications depending on the needs of a specific construction project.
